New Baler in Operation at the Transfer Station-Click here for details.

New Baler at the Transfer Station is operating!

The new baler that was approved at the 2022 Town Meeting is finally up and running. There were delays because of the needed power upgrade to operate the baler. We are still waiting for all the needed electrical components, 400 amp meter socket and panel, but Larry Martin, our electrician was able to safely use a temporary connection to power the unit. The Transfer Station staff and Highway employees were trained on the operations of the baler on Wednesday and we will be moving loose cardboard from the trailer to the baler to make bales on Tuesday’s.

This requires hand sorting of cardboard to remove any materials that would not be accepted as “cardboard” by our vendor. Quite a bit of “non-cardboard” had to be removed in order to make the first bale.

In order to make the process of baling cardboard run smoothly we ask that only “Corrugated Cardboard” be placed in the trailer. All other paper products can be placed in the “Mixed Paper” trailer. Please see an attendant if you have any questions.

In the future we will be baling plastic and mixed paper.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience.
