Canterbury is a great Town to live in! The natural beauty of the surrounding area provides many opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities. The miles of river frontage along the Merrimack provide a great number of recreational options. Our proximity to routes 93, 89 and 4 provides access to the north, south, east or west making it easy to get around our State.
Canterbury has a heavy concentration of small, home based businesses. In addition, many of our residents work in Concord for our State government. We have a small but committed group of Town employees who work hard to provide residents with high quality of service and take great pride in what they do for our Town.
But the backbone of our Town is the volunteer spirit that drives so much of what gets done in Canterbury. This was recognized this year when the Town received the "Old Man in the Mountain Profile Award" presented by the Federation of Women's Clubs NH Chapter. The award was presented in recognition of Canterbury's contribution to the spirit and heritage of the State. Among the projects that contributed to the Town receiving the award were the formation of the LLC to purchase and preserve the Store and Post Office in the Town center, the permanent protection of over 600 acres of agricultural land and miles of riverfront at the Goldstar property and the additon and renovations of new Town buildings revitalizing the Town Center and providing for the future needs of our Town. Significantly, all of the projects began as volunteer efforts and were accomplished in a short amount of time. A real tribute to the volunteer spirit that is Canterbury!
